Understanding gain staging

Gain staging means setting appropriate levels at every step so nothing clips and your noise floor stays low. Aim for peaks around -12 to -6 dBFS on individual tracks, leaving headroom on your master bus. Good gain staging makes everything downstream, EQ, compression, and the final master, easier and cleaner.
